Traditions of Alaior

Intimately linked to the economic evolution of the town and Menorca, the traditions of Alaior play a decisive role in the unique social physiognomy of the population. In the industrial-artisan sector, we can mention dairy processing (curing of artisanal cheese and the COINGA cooperative), the production of sausages, ice cream, pastries, and the preparation of liqueurs. In the industrial sector, there is the manufacturing of footwear, furniture, and hinges, as well as a small jewellery sector. As an expression of the oldest Menorcan activities, some examples of master ploughmen still survive. In the month of March, an important livestock fair is held at the industrial estate.
