Son Saura and Son Parc

Arenal Son Saura:

It is a dune area of considerable dimensions, also known as the Arenal de s'Olla or by the name of the residential area, since it is next to the Son Parc urbanisation. This beach is the culmination of extensive dune areas that even reach into the forest somewhat further from the coast. These dune areas are protected natural spaces, so they must not be encroached upon. There is a bar-restaurant right on the beach, and given its proximity to the residential area, all types of complementary services are available, including hotels, a supermarket, car rentals, and even the only Golf Course in Menorca, prepared for year-round play with courses for all ages. The beach is wide with fine sands and is a cove located a short distance from the open sea. Note: do not confuse with the Son Saura beach in Ciutadella, in the area of the Calan Bosch lake and Son Xoriger south of Ciutadella.

The Son Parc residential area is mostly scattered throughout a pine forest, disguising its true scale and making its paths more pleasant and cool.

Cala Pudent:

It is a beach in the middle zone of the west face (sunset side) of the Mola de Fornells; almost the entire Mola and the beaches found there are virgin. The landscape is somewhat arid and has sparse vegetation, with a few exceptions.

This circuit, in the Son Parc area, features three clearly differentiated areas.

Coming from Son Parc, the first is a narrow beach of pebbles, the second is a sandy beach which tends to have mud and seaweed despite being of good size, and the third entrance is a deep inlet in the barranco that gave rise to the formation of the cove.

Cala Pudent owes its name to the fact that at certain times of the year, it tends to have a strong odor produced by seaweed and mud that accumulate, which, being poorly oxygenated and in contact with the fresh water from the stream, gives off a characteristic smell.

This does not detract from the landscape or the beach of Cala Pudent, a very quiet and appreciated spot, both for swimming enthusiasts—including naturists who practice nudism—and for those who enjoy fishing with a rod or practicing scuba diving. The Mola de Fornells area is highly renowned among divers, as it has several underwater caves, some very famous among divers even in other European countries, such as the Cova de na Pulida due to its spectacular nature. Moreover, it is a place with very good conditions for excursions and walks at any time of the year, and given the flatness of the terrain with low to very low difficulty, it facilitates family excursions to get to know the surroundings of the great Mola de Fornells and, above all, the beautiful beaches.

Excursions: The most recommended is the route you can take to Cala Pudent and Sa Olla d'en Tasqueta, a very beautiful and rarely frequented landscape area, about a 20-minute walk away. If you are prepared for a three or four-hour march, in this case it is recommended to carry water and some food if the excursion is for longer, but above all drinks.

You can continue until you reach the tip of the Mola de Fornells to see the imposing views from the watchtower of the Mola de Fornells at 125 m above sea level. Below on the cliff facing the sea, there is a very famous cave, the Cova de Na Pulida, highly appreciated by divers for its extraordinary dimensions, but only professionals visit it as you must have the equipment and be accompanied by professionals familiar with the terrain to be covered.

Access: to Son Parc and the beach.

From Maó: Take the road that starts at the end of the Port of Maó, which is the road to Fornells, PM710. At km 9 on the right, the road to the Favàritx cape and lighthouse begins. At km 12.5 there is a gas station, but it is only open in summer. Then at km 15 is the junction of the road coming from Alaior that goes to Arenal d'en Castell, Na Macaret, and Puerto de Addaia. Continuing, just as you reach km 18 where there are roundabouts to join the road, and just before passing the restaurant and equestrian club of Llucaixt Park, is the road that leads to the Son Parc residential area and the Arenal de Son Saura beach, less than two km away.

For Cala Pudent and the Mola de Fornells, take the access road to Son Parc and, without entering the residential area, next to the supermarket, you will find the path to the beach on the left (see Arenal de Son Saura). From this beach, walking along the coast to the left of the Arenal de Son Parc for 20 minutes along an easily recognizable path, it leads directly to Cala Pudent. You can also arrive by sea starting from Fornells or from Son Parc.

If you wish, you can extend the excursion to the cove of Es Macar de d'en Tosqueta, a beach of "mac" (boulders rounded by the sea) and the beach of Illa de Tosqueta, a small but very, very beautiful and charming corner.

From Es Mercadal take the C723 road to Fornells; at km 5 you will find the turnoff to the PM710, which gives us the possibility of doing the route in the opposite direction and even going down from Alaior to the junction of Arenal d'en Castell and turning left to the junction for Son Parc.

From Alaior it can be accessed by taking the Binifamís road in the direction of Arenal d'en Castell, and at the junction with the PM710 at km 15, turn left to km 17.8 and then again to the right, entering Son Parc.

1 - ) Arrival point at the Son Parc residential area

Here at this point is the Son Parc Golf Course, the only Golf course in Menorca

On the right, we enter the Son Parc residential area, which has hotels, tourist apartments, a shopping center, and varied shops and stores, as well as a supermarket and car rental offices.

Straight ahead, from this point (1) we head to the beach, Arenal de Son Parc, right on the side of the Son Parc residential area and the latest hotel establishments built in Son Parc.

3 - ) Son Parc beach, you can appreciate the spectacular extent of the sandy area, which stretches into the island territory; this is because it is an extensive dune area that runs between the residential area and the Son Parc golf course and culminates at the Son Parc beach.
