Torralba den Salor

Menorca: Archaeology Torralba den Salor

This settlement is located more or less in the middle of the road connecting the town of Alaior with the road to Cala en Porter. It is another talayotic settlement that began its activity in the pre-talayotic period, but whose peak moment occurred during the Punic commercial expansion, under whose influence Menorca was.

It is currently very deteriorated, although the sanctuary with the large taula is one of the most perfect and best preserved on the island. Inside the enclosure, at the time of the excavation, remains of two large hearths were found where ritual animal offerings had been made. Animal remains and ceramics also appeared in the lateral niches. The most important find is the sculpture of a small bronze calf, which shows that the bull was also worshipped in Menorca as it was throughout the Mediterranean.
